New documentary to provide insight into life of King Phillipe

VRT will broadcast the documentary Filip: A Year with the King of the Belgians to mark the 10th anniversary of the King's reign, VRT announced on Monday. Director Nicolas Delvaulx accompanied the King on travels, at meetings and at royal functions for a year while filming.

The documentary aims to reveal the person behind the royal role. Delvaulx filmed confidential moments where cameras are usually not invited and had several one-on-one conversations with the King.

"The King himself talks about his office for the first time, which gives you as a viewer a better insight into his work and its impact on the King," Delvaulx said. "Never before has King Philippe shown himself this way, with so much candour, spontaneity and depth."

The programme, to be broadcast on Een on 18 December, is a co-production with francophone public broadcaster RTBF. Delvaulx previously worked with the two broadcasters to make the 2022 documentary Paola: Coté Jardin.
