University of Ghent to develop new diagnostics + healing technologies for hearing loss
The European Innovation Council (EIC) granted University of Ghent with a Transition Grant for their innovative 'EarDiTech' project (Precision Hearing Diagnostics and Augmented Hearing Technologies). With this investment researcher and Professor Sarah Verhulst and her team at UGent hope to bring innovative hearing diagnostics and treatment closer to the patient and to the market.

The 'EarDiTech' project already received an ERC Starting Grant in 2016. With this grant the research team was able to study the corelation of auditory computer models and artificial intelligence in terms of detection of the first signs of hearing damage and in hearing-aid algorithm development.
With the EIC Transition Grant, Verhulst and her team hope to develop more sensitive hearing tests and audio-processors for hearing aids and hearables and bring this to the market.
The Transition Grant is only launched this year and is provided by the European Innovation Council for European projects addressing both technology and market/business development. From the 292 proposals that were submitted, the first grant went to Ghent University and the ‘EarDiTech’-project.
