Unicef Belgium registered 96,594 monthly donors in 2024. This is the highest number in the last five years, the NGO's annual report showed on Thursday. Donations by monthly donors also brought in a record amount of money last year.
The number of monthly donors increased slightly compared to 2023, when Unicef Belgium had 94,912 monthly donors. The previous years, it had around 90,000. Monthly donations brought in a total of over 12.8 million euros, more than half of the total income and another record compared to the last five years.
In total, Unicef Belgium raised 24,888,772 euros in 2024, a slight decrease compared to the previous year. The NGO's record still stands at more than 33 million euros in 2022. Financial support from companies also ended up significantly lower than the 1.9 million euros in 2023.
Emergency aid
Most of the funds raised were used for development aid. Unicef Belgium also contributed to emergency reconstruction programmes in Syria and Turkey, as well as in Morocco, Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ukraine. 3.45 per cent of total contributions and expenses went to these relief programmes.
In 2024, Unicef Belgium also celebrated the 35th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. To this end, Unicef Belgium organised an international conference on the rights of children in crisis situations at the end of November last year. The event was inaugurated by its honorary chair, Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
