Two suspects arrested after Louvre jewellery heist

Two suspects have been arrested following the jewellery theft at the Louvre in Paris. Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed the arrests on Sunday morning, citing reports in the French media.
According to Le Parisien, the suspects are believed to be two men from the Seine-Saint-Denis department, near Paris. They are thought to be part of a group of four who carried out the theft on 19 October in the French capital. The criminals stole eight crown jewels from the Apollo Gallery, with an estimated value of 88 million euros.

One of the two men was arrested at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport in Roissy. “He was about to leave the country,” Beccuau said. Le Parisien reported that he had been planning to board a flight to Algeria, while the second suspect was apprehended in Paris.
In her statement, Beccuau expressed regret that news of the arrests “can only harm the investigative efforts of the approximately one hundred mobilised investigators.” The search for the missing jewels and the remaining perpetrators is still ongoing.
French interior minister Laurent Nuñez congratulated the investigators on the social platform X, praising those “who worked tirelessly, as I asked them to, and who have always had my full confidence.”
On Friday, police announced they had collected more than 150 DNA samples, fingerprints, and other pieces of evidence from the scene of the theft at the Louvre.
