Two in three Belgians fear they will no longer be able to pay energy bills

Sixty-four percent of Belgians fear they will no longer be able to pay their energy bills in the coming months, shows a poll conducted by Het Laatste Nieuws, VTM Nieuws, RTL and Le Soir. This is a very strong increase: in June, the figure was just 38 percent.

Household budgets across the country are spread thin, the poll shows. The fear of an insufficient household budget lives in all age groups, although the fear is greatest in the group of 35- to 51-year-olds (71 percent).

Eighty percent are already saving on energy bills by consuming less. This figure is confirmed by a similar survey by energy supplier Luminus, newspapers Gazet Van Antwerp and Het Belang Van Limburg report.
