Twenty Antwerp museums stay open late for Museum Night

On Saturday, 20 museums in Antwerp will welcome visitors from 19.00 to 1.00 for Museum Night. Institutions including MAS and AMUZ are organising guided tours, workshops, and performances.
Almost every museum is trying to attract visitors with special activities to mark the occasion. AMUZ, for instance, will host a performance by singer Romain Dayez, who will take the audience "beyond the boundaries of Gregorian chant, electronica and classical music".
The M HKA has chosen "space" as its theme and will use a projector to display 2,500 stars on a giant dome. This time, the afterparty will take place at De Studio. The MAS has invited DJs and a hairstylist, and is organising speed tours of its collection. The afterparty for Museum Night will take place at De Studio.
Illustrators and garden tour
Although several Antwerp museums are closed for renovation this year, they are not skipping Museum Night entirely. The Vleeshuis, for instance, will open its vacant offices to allow illustrators such as Nina Aerts, Auwnanas and Niet Nu Laura to work on site.
The Rubens House will open the Rubens Garden and the Mayer van den Bergh Museum will display part of its collection in the Maagdenhuis, accompanied by performances.
Thriving cultural sector
“For me, Museum Night is the perfect opportunity to head into the city with friends for a culture-filled evening full of surprises,” said Antwerp's alderwoman for culture, Lien Van de Kelder.
“Cycling past twenty museums and cultural centres with the free Velo day pass and being able to enter everywhere with a single wristband is wonderful," she said. "Our Antwerp cultural sector is thriving, and you can experience this for yourself during Museum Night."
Advance tickets for Museum Night cost 20 euros, or 15 euros for people under 26. If you can't visit all the museums you want in one evening, your wristband will allow you to visit any of the participating museums until 31 August.
