Trump walks back tariff threat over Greenland after meeting with NATO's Mark Rutte

US president Donald Trump will not impose import tariffs on several European countries from 1 February after all. He announced this on his Truth Social channel on Wednesday evening.
On Saturday, Trump announced that he would impose import tariffs on European countries that had sent troops to Greenland. He has now reversed that announcement after a conversation with NATO secretary general Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"We have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," Trump wrote. "This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations."
