Trade unions and management reach draft agreement at Volvo supplier Plasman

Trade unions and management at automotive supplier Plasman have reached a draft agreement following several days of industrial action. Belga learned this from union sources on Friday. Employees at the Ghent plant will vote on the proposal later in the day.
According to the unions, negotiations continued until around midnight on Thursday. Following earlier informal contacts, a draft agreement is now on the table, although its contents have not yet been disclosed.
The proposal will be presented to employees between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Union representatives and management are expected to communicate further details only after workers have assessed the agreement.
The strike began on Tuesday after it emerged that an anticipated new order would not be allocated to the Ghent site. Production has been halted since then.

The dispute has also affected Volvo Car Gent, which was forced to suspend final assembly because of a shortage of parts supplied by Plasman. Around 4,000 Volvo employees have been placed on temporary unemployment.
If workers approve the draft agreement, it could become clear later on Friday when the strike will end and when production at both Plasman and Volvo can resume.
