Ticketmaster confirms hackers stole customer data

Live Nation, the parent company of concert and ticketing platform Ticketmaster, has confirmed that it has been hacked, according to a document seen by the AFP news agency.

The Australian government announced a day earlier that it had launched an investigation into a cybersecurity "issue". The decision came after a group of hackers claimed to have gained access to the personal details of 560 million Ticketmaster customers.

The hacker group, known as ShinyHunters, posted evidence of the hack on the dark web. They have demanded 500,000 dollars as a ransom payment to prevent the data from being sold to other parties.

In a document filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Live Nation confirmed that it was informed on 20 May that its ticketing platform had been hacked. The company has engaged specialist firms to determine the nature of the breach.

The company added that it had received confirmation on Monday that the hackers intended to sell the data on the dark web. The stolen data is said to include names, addresses, emails, phone numbers and the last four digits of customers' credit card numbers.

"To date, the incident has not had, and we do not expect it to have, a material impact on our business or financial results. We continue to assess the risks and our remediation efforts are ongoing," Live Nation said.
