Three-quarters of Flemish people believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza

Three in four Flemish people believe Israel is committing genocide and war crimes in the Gaza Strip. A third also hold Hamas partly responsible. That’s according to a new Ipsos survey, commissioned by Het Nieuwsblad and conducted between 1 and 4 August among 1,000 Flemish residents aged 18 and over.
Seven in ten blame Israel for the famine in Gaza. Within that group, 38 per cent also attribute partial responsibility to Hamas. Just under half of the respondents believe Hamas alone is to blame, while 42 per cent say Israel bears full responsibility. Only five per cent say Israel carries no blame at all.
A large majority (73 per cent) believe the Belgian federal government should impose sanctions against Israel. Nearly half of them (47 per cent) favour economic and financial sanctions. Forty-three per cent support a ban on all forms of military cooperation. More than half (55 per cent) say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested and handed over to the International Criminal Court in The Hague if he enters Belgian territory.
Six in ten support recognising Palestine as a state, though most would attach conditions, such as the release of hostages and a halt to armed resistance.
