Third day of strike leads to more Brussels Airlines flight cancellations
Around 10 flights have been cancelled on Friday due to action by Brussels Airlines cabin crew. This is the third day staff have expressed dissatisfaction with pay and workload.
On 21 February, the Christian union called cabin crew to go on strike from 28 February to 1 March over high workloads and low pay. Although management negotiated with unions on Wednesday, the talks failed despite a "very substantial" proposal, the company said.
Brussels Airlines managed to avoid a strike in December. Since then, however, no concrete solutions have been put forward to change the current situation. The national airline is faced with an ongoing social conflict. According to the unions, the company does not respect the various collective agreements.
The company says Friday's action has led to the cancellation of around 10 flights. These include departures to Munich, Vienna, Vilnius and Nice. Flights arriving from Conakry (via Dakar), Lomé (via Accra), New York, Birmingham, Oslo, Vienna and Munich are also cancelled.
