Thibaut Courtois wins second Champions League with Real Madrid
Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois won his second Champions League with Real Madrid on Saturday night. The Spanish champions beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley to lift the trophy for the 15th time.
It was a race against the clock for Courtois to be ready for Real's most important game of the season, after missing nine months with a torn ligament and meniscus. He finally returned from injury at the start of May, but had played just four games before Saturday's final.
Despite his lack of game time this season, Courtois proved his worth in the final with some crucial first-half saves. Dortmund were the more dangerous side, it was Real's Dani Carvajal who opened the scoring. Vinicius Jr made it 2-0 in the dying minutes to seal another European success for the Spanish club.
Courtois will not play for Belgium at the European Championships in Germany later this month. He was left out of the Red Devils' 26-man squad after falling out with coach Domenico Tedesco.
