Thibau Nys follows in his father's footsteps by winning Cyclo-cross Koppenberg
Thibau Nys won the Cyclo-cross Koppenberg in Oudenaarde on Wednesday, the opening race of the cyclo-cross season. He gestured "10" as he crossed the finish line, referring to the number of victories the Nys family has amassed on the track.
Nys's victory comes 11 years after the last win for his father, Sven, the record holder in the race with nine victories. "I never expected to win the Koppenberg on my own today," Nys said afterwards. "It's brilliant that I was able to win here."
It was the third victory of the season for Nys, who is one of the favourites for the European Championship, which takes place in Pontchâteau, France, on Sunday. "I'm not thinking about that at the moment, but I'm going full steam ahead," he said. "My season has started brilliantly."
