Statistics show that seven in ten Flemish residents took a holiday in 2024

In 2024, 73 per cent of Flemish residents took a trip that included at least one overnight stay, according to new figures released Wednesday by Statistics Flanders. That share is similar to 2023 (72.2 per cent) and slightly above the pre-pandemic level of 68.6 per cent in 2019.
Families remain the most active travellers. Couples with children had the highest holiday participation rate at 90 per cent, followed closely by households with two working adults (89 per cent). Highly educated individuals, single-parent families and young people also travelled more frequently than average, both domestically and abroad.
In contrast, only 46 per cent of single people went on holiday last year. Holiday participation was also lower among non-working households, those with lower levels of education and people aged 55 and older.
Travel abroad continued to rise, with 64.8 per cent of Flemish people taking an international trip in 2024, up from 62.8 per cent in 2023 and 56.7 per cent in 2022. These figures suggest that international travel has now returned to pre-pandemic levels.
Compared to other regions in Belgium, Flanders leads in holiday participation. In 2024, only 69 per cent of residents in the Brussels-Capital Region and 64 per cent in Wallonia took a trip with an overnight stay.
