Speed skating: Bart Swings wins gold in mass start in 4th consecutive European title

Belgium's Bart Swings won gold in the mass start event on the third day of the European Speed Skating Championships in Poland on Sunday. The 34-year-old three-time defending champion added a fourth consecutive title in this event to his record after winning in 2020, 2022 and 2024.

Swings, from Leuven, an Olympic champion in the discipline, won with 60 points, ahead of Dutchman Bart Hoolwerf on 41.

It was the second Belgian medal of the day, after Fran Vanhoutte's bronze in the women's mass start. Belgium leaves Poland with five medals: one gold, three silver and one bronze. On Sunday, Vanhoutte, Isabelle Van Elst and Sandrine Tas also won silver in the pursuit, matching their previous silver medal in the sprint. Tas secured Belgium's first medal at a European Championship for women, winning silver in the 3,000m.
