Speed Skating: Bart Swings wins gold in mass start, in 4th consecutive European title

Bart Swings won the gold medal in the mass start event on the third day of the European Speed Skating Championships, Sunday in Poland. The 34-year-old, three-time defending champion, added a fourth consecutive title in this event to his record after 2020, 2022, and 2024. The Leuven native, an Olympic champion in the discipline, won with 60 points, ahead of Dutchman Bart Hoolwerf (41).

This is the second Belgian medal of the day, after Fran Vanhoutte's bronze in the women's mass start. Belgium leaves Poland with five medals (one gold, three silver, and one bronze). On Sunday, Fran Vanhoutte, Isabelle Van Elst, and Sandrine Tas also won a silver medal in the pursuit, matching their previous silver medal in the sprint. Sandrine Tas secured Belgium's first medal at a European Championship for women, also a silver in the 3,000m.
