Students run from Belgrade to Brussels to highlight government corruption

Serbian students began an 18-day run from Belgrade to Brussels on Friday to address the European Parliament about the massive anti-corruption protests shaking Serbia.
After a 13-day, 1,400km bicycle journey from Novi Sad to Strasbourg earlier this month, a new wave of students took off on foot. The group plans to cover 1,933km through eight countries, arriving in Brussels on 12 May while the Parliament is in session.
The 80 Serbian students who cycled from Novi Sad to Strasbourg handed a letter to the Council of Europe detailing events since 1 November, when demonstrations began.
The outpouring of protests is in response to the collapse of a canopy at Novi Sad’s Chinese-renovated railway station, which killed 16 people. The tragedy sparked outrage and calls for accountability from president Aleksandar Vučić’s government.
