Second ferry connects two banks of the Scheldt in Antwerp

Since Saturday a second ferry sails between the two banks of the Scheldt in Antwerp. The second ship is meant to minimize the disruption caused by works on the St. Anna pedestrain tunnel and will sail until 31 March 2023.

Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters (Open Vld) says the extra ferry should provide a smoother connection between the Left Bank and the city centre. "In this way we are also further supporting the 'modal shift' in Antwerp," she adds. "From now on, it will be possible to cross the Scheldt every 15 minutes for most of the day."

The second ferry, christened Simon Stevin, will alternate with the Marnix Van Sint Aldegonde. During the week, there will be a ferry every 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 6.15 p.m., and during the weekend or on holidays between 10 a.m. and 9.15 p.m. The Flemish government is investing 1.75 million euros in the project.
