RMI issues thunderstorm alert for Brussels and five provinces

The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for Brussels and the provinces of Liège, Namur, Luxembourg, Walloon Brabant and Flemish Brabant until 1.00 on Monday.
According to the RMI, intense localised showers could lead to rainfall totals of over 20 litres per square metre within a few hours, and over 25 litres per square metre within 24 hours.
A yellow warning urges people to be vigilant, as RMI expects local thunderstorms, which may cause disruption or damage due to heavy rainfall, hail, strong winds or lightning strikes.
On Sunday, maximum temperatures will generally range between 16 and 22 degrees, accompanied by a light to moderate westerly wind, which will turn to the north-west.
Showers, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, will continue on Sunday evening. After midnight, these showers will leave Belgium and move towards Germany. However, new precipitation could affect the coast and north-west of the country towards the end of the night.
