Remco Evenepoel makes history as first Belgian to win time trial world title

Remco Evenepoel made history in Scotland on Friday, becoming the first Belgian to win the world time trial championship.

That was not the only record the young Belgian broke on Friday. The 23-year-old also became the youngest ever time trial world champion. He is the second cyclist ever to win both the road and time trial world titles.

Evenepoel was 12 seconds faster than runner-up Filippo Ganna of Italy, with young British rider Joshua Tarling taking bronze. Compatriot Wout van Aert was fifth.

It is the fourth men's elite time trial medal for Evenepoel. The Belgian finished third the last two years and took silver in 2019. He also won the world junior time trial championship in 2018.
