RBFA cancels World Cup fan village in Brussels due to lack of enthusiasm

The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) announced that it has cancelled the construction of its official World Cup fan village, called "The Desert", in Vilvoorde.
The fan village had been planned at the Asiat Park in Vilvoorde. A week before the Red Devils' first match at the World Cup in Qatar, the KBVB decided not to build "The Desert". The KBVB will refund all fans who bought tickets for the event. They will receive more information about this soon.
"Because it was not possible for most fans to go to Qatar, we wanted to bring the World Cup to the fans," said Manu Leroy, director of marketing and communication at the RBFA. "However, we sold far fewer tickets than hoped for and have to conclude that there is currently less enthusiasm for big-screen events compared to other years."
In the press release, the football federation also states that its own reporters will follow the Red Devils behind the scenes at the World Cup. There will be daily reports in the football federation's official app. "Our three reporters will cover the daily activities of our Red Devils from Qatar: at the breakfast table, on the massage table, during training... The fans will get an insight into the life of our Devils at the World Cup," Leroy added.
