Radio station Nostalgie presents host generated by AI

French-language radio station Nostalgie has announced that it will have a radio host generated by artificial intelligence from next week. The NGroup, of which Nostalgie is part, says this is the first project of its kind in Europe.

The presenter, called Mamie l'IA or AI Granny, will regularly appear on the Le 16-20 programme in the evenings between 19.00 and 20.00. As its name suggests, the radio channel has chosen an older female character.

“Mamie l'IA consists of voices generated from databases and real voices of grandmothers,” said Julien Sturbois, one of the hosts of Le 16-20. “We recorded the voices of two grandmothers and mixed them with the databases. In addition, we have content coming from ChatGPT.”

“There are technological revolutions going on. Nostalgie has decided to embrace these changes and integrate them into its programmes,” said station manager Jean-François Pottier.
