Qatar confirms two-day extension of humanitarian truce

The temporary truce in Gaza will be extended by two days, Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign ministry, confirmed via X on Monday. Qatar mediated the agreement. Hamas also confirmed the extension.

During the extension, the same conditions would apply as during the first four days of the ceasefire: Hamas would release more Israeli hostages in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners and continuing to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously said he would continue the ceasefire if Hamas released 10 hostages a day. According to Egypt, the extension of the truce includes the release of 20 more hostages and 60 Palestinian prisoners.
