Portugal win Nations League after penalty shootout against Spain

Portugal have won the UEFA Nations League by beating Spain in a dramatic final decided by penalties. The match ended 2-2 after extra time, but Portugal kept their cool in the shootout to win 5-3.

Spain took the lead early through Martin Zubimendi, but Portugal hit back quickly with a powerful goal from Nuno Mendes. Just before half-time, Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain ahead again.

Cristiano Ronaldo brought Portugal level in the second half with his 138th goal for the national team, a new record. The 39-year-old was given a standing ovation when he was substituted late in the game.

Neither team could score in extra time, so the match went to penalties. Portugal scored all five of theirs, and goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved a key shot from Alvaro Morata. Ruben Neves then scored the final penalty to win the trophy for Portugal.

This is Portugal’s second Nations League title, after their first win in 2019.
