Police on alert for revenge attacks after deadly fight at Zaventem station

Police will be extra vigilant at schools in Zaventem on Monday in case of reprisals following last Friday's deadly incident on the tracks of Zaventem station, when a 23-year-old man was killed.

A fight between two groups of young people got out of hand at Zaventem station, just outside Brussels and close to Brussels Airport. Two people ended up on the tracks as an ICE train was passing. A 23-year-old man died on the spot, while a 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to the public prosecutor's office in Halle-Vilvoorde, a third person is still at large and has not been identified. An appeal was issued on Saturday for witnesses and pictures of the events. The police will be particularly vigilant on Monday in case of reprisals.

The public prosecutor's office announced on Sunday that four people had been detained for questioning concerning the deadly brawl. One was released after questioning, while the other three will be brought before the investigating judge on Sunday afternoon.
