Police conduct major operation in Brussels as part of fight against drug trafficking

The police has on Thursday conducted a large-scale control operation in Brussels, as part of the fight against drug trafficking in the capital. During the operation, 16 administrative and 10 judicial arrests were made.
The so-called FIPA operation (Full Integrated Police Action) took place on Thursday from midday until midnight. It specifically targeted “hotspots” identified in the fight against drug trafficking.
More than 200 people from the six local police zones, the federal railway police and other support units of the federal police, as well as the Brussels public prosecutor's office, public transport operator STIB/MIVB and the Immigration Office took part in the operation.
“During the operation, 16 administrative and 10 judicial arrests were made, and 19 police reports were drawn up for drugs and 3 police reports for weapons,” stated the federal police. “The aim of this operation was to respond to the population's feeling of insecurity and to contribute to reducing crimes related to the trafficking, sale and use of drugs, with particular attention to the possession of weapons.”
