Pipe manufacturer Steinzeug-Keramo may cease production in Hasselt, 144 jobs threatened

Pipe manufacturer Steinzeug-Keramo may completely cease production of sewer pipes at its factory in Hasselt, Limburg province, putting 144 jobs at risk. The news was announced on Friday during a special works council meeting. Staff will receive further details on Tuesday.
A temporary halt to production had already been announced until the beginning of April. Now, a declaration of intent to cease production entirely has followed. Staff will be given further information next Tuesday, and talks with the trade unions will continue on Thursday.
In recent years, the company has already laid off a large part of its workforce. Whereas in the early 2000s, there were still around 500 employees working in Hasselt, that number has now fallen to 144.
In addition, the company has suffered losses in recent years. For the financial years 2023 and 2024, these losses would have amounted to more than 5.3 million euros.
