Payment app Payconiq rebranded to Bancontact Pay

Payment app Payconiq will become Bancontact Pay from Monday. The move will not affect usage for the app’s 2 million users.
The name change is part of a redesign of the Bancontact Company’s brands and will take place via an automatic update. All the functions will remain, such as QR code payments in shops, between friends, online and in apps.
For online payments, three new names will appear: Bancontact Pay for mobile payments via a banking app or the Bancontact Pay app, Bancontact Card for payments with a debit card, and Bancontact One Click for payments when the card details are already registered with the seller.
The QR codes can also be used to pay via the European system Wero. As now, the codes can be scanned using a banking app and the Bancontact Pay app.
The Bancontact Pro system will allow sellers to receive payments via a QR code on their phone. All sellers will shortly receive a package including a new code sticker.
Bancontact Company offers payment services to consumers and merchants under the supervision of the National Bank of Belgium. It announced the changes to its identity from Bancontact Payconiq Company late last year, with the changes coming into effect this week.
Nearly one in two Belgians used QR code payments in 2025. Bancontact Company processes about 2.5 billion transactions a year: one in five are mobile payments and their volume increased almost eightfold between 2019 and 2025.
