Paralympics: Laurens Devos crowned table tennis champion for third time in a row
Belgium's Laurens Devos was crowned table tennis champion in Class 9 at the Paralympic Games for the third time in a row on Saturday. The 24-year-old from Antwerp beat Frenchman Lucas Didier in three sets in the final.
The gold medal match at the Arena Paris Sud lasted 19 minutes, with Devos defeating Didier 11-9 and twice 11-7.
Devos, who was born with hemiplegia, a condition that causes paralysis on one side of the body, became the youngest Paralympic gold medallist in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. Five years later, he repeated the feat in Tokyo.
Devos also competed in the MD18 doubles at these Paralympic Games. Together with Marc Ledoux, he lost to China's Shuai Zhao and Hao Lian in the quarter-finals.
