Pakistani mediator: Agreement between US and Iran on text of peace deal

Iran and the United States are reported to have reached an agreement on the text of a peace deal. This was announced by Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday evening on the platform X. Pakistan is acting as a mediator between the two countries.
“Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalise the next steps,” he added. “Peace has never been this close as it is now.”
In the same post, the Pakistani prime minister also stated that his country’s mediation efforts took place amidst an “incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal”.
There has been no official confirmation from the US or Iran as yet. In recent days, numerous conflicting reports have been circulating regarding a possible agreement between the two countries.
A senior US official, however, told the AFP news agency that there is “an 80 to 85 per cent chance” that an agreement with Iran will be signed in the coming days. He said that the agreement also covers Lebanon, a demand that Tehran had made. In southern Lebanon, the Israeli army continues to carry out daily attacks against the Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah.
