Over 90 Belgian Delhaize stores stay closed, negotiations to start on Tuesday

Delhaize employees are continuing their strike on Monday, in protest against the franchizing of its stores in Belgium. According to management, 94 Delhaize supermarkets are not accessible on Monday morning, while 34 of its shops are open.

Delhaize announced its intention to privatise all 128 shops last Tuesday. In protest, staff stopped working. The Delhaize spokesman would not say how much turnover loss these actions have already caused.

Unions fear that employees will be transferred to franchise shops with poorer working conditions. On Tuesday, they will start negotiations with Delhaize management.
