Over 350 Walloon sites open to public for Heritage Days this weekend

Thousands of visitors are expected from across Belgium for the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) taking place in Wallonia this weekend. Across the region, more than 350 heritage sites will open their doors free of charge, centring on the theme “Heritage & Innovation.”

"We sometimes tend to think that heritage and innovation are opposed when they are complementary. Innovation helps to bring life to life and to the discovery of heritage, we are thinking here of 3D digitisation, for example,” commented the Minister for Heritage, Valérie De Bue.

Three main categories have been defined: innovation over time, innovation in favour of knowledge, conservation and restoration of heritage and innovation in the service of the discovery of heritage and its enhancement.

Activities will be organised under the theme Heritage & Innovation, using new technologies such as augmented reality or immersive exhibitions. This will be the case, for example, in Flémalle, where visitors will be able to discover the fort using a virtual reality helmet.
