On average less than 10,000 covid-19 infections per day in Belgium

This past week, the average number of daily COVID-19 infections in Belgium dipped below 10 000. From March 29 to April 4, there was an average of 9,658 daily infections, a decrease of 14 percent. That is what the preliminary figures from the Belgian health institute Sciensano show on Friday.

The number of new hospital admissions also decreased between April 1 and 7, although to a lesser extent. There were still 215 new admissions a day on average, a decrease of 2 percent. 

In the period from March 29 to April 4, the number of deaths rose slightly. The number of deaths per day is now 23.7, 3 percent more than in the previous week.

Hospitals now have 3,073 COVID-19 infected patients, an increase of 3 percent. Of this group, 176 patients are in intensive care, also an increase of 2 percent.
