Olympics: Rower Tim Brys launches Belgium's Games
Rower Tim Brys kicked off Belgium’s participation at the Olympics on Saturday morning, finishing third in his heat and qualifying for the quarter-finals of the single scull event.
Brys, 31, from Ghent, completed the 2,000m course at the Vaires-sur-Marne Olympic water sports stadium in 6:52.35. Dutchman Simon van Dorp took first place ahead of Japan’s Ryuta Arakawa.
Rowers’ times in the heats determine their positioning in the quarter-finals, which take place on Tuesday morning.
If he finishes in the top three in his quarter-final, Brys will qualify for the semi-finals, scheduled for 1 August. The top three in each of the semi-finals will qualify for the A final, with the other three qualifying for the B final. These take place on 3 August.
Brys competed in the lightweight double sculls with Niels Van Zandweghe at the last Tokyo 2020 Games, where they finished fifth.
