Olivia and Noah remain the most popular first names in Belgium

Olivia and Noah continue to top the list of most popular baby names in Belgium, according to figures released on Thursday by the statistics office Statbel.

Olivia has held the top spot since 2019, and Noah since 2021. The number of newborns named Olivia continues to decline, however. In 2024, 531 babies received the name, 56 fewer than in 2023. Emma remains in second place, with 455 babies, 26 more than in 2023, followed by Louise with 432. The only newcomer in the girls' top 10 is Anna, entering in 10th place.

Noah remains the most popular name for boys, despite a slight decrease of seven compared to 2023, with 582 newborns receiving the name. Arthur ranks second (559) and Jules is third (478). Jules made a notable jump, climbing from sixth place last year. The only new entry in the boys’ top 10 is Leon, in 10th place.

As for the most common first names in the overall population, Maria and Marc continue to lead. A total of 100,634 Belgian women are named Maria, followed by Marie and Nathalie. Among men, Marc remains the most common, followed by Jean and Patrick.
