New tile with QR code at Leuven city hall takes people to virtual museum of Flanders
The second tile with QR code of the Flanders All Around Museum (FAAM) was unveiled in Leuven city hall on Thursday. The QR code leads to the FAAM app, where a virtual museum of all Flanders can be found.
The Flemish government launched FAAM in Dendermonde in March. The online museum complements the TV programme Het Verhaal van Vlaanderen and the Canon of Flanders, a list of events, people and traditions that define today’s Flanders. Through the app, people can discover Flemish history and heritage stories in an interactive way. A tile with a QR code in five cities directs visitors to the app.
Leuven is now the second city where a tile has been placed: visitors can find it on the Grote Markt. Those who scan the QR code and download the app will be able to explore, via augmented reality, stories about Leuven's historic town hall and St Peter's church, among others. In total, there are more than 30 stories from Leuven's history that can be discovered in FAAM, with or without augmented reality.
A new tile in Oostduinkerke will be inaugurated this month, with Beringen and Antwerp to follow later this year. Meanwhile, more than 500 heritage sites and events across Flanders have been added to the app. Ultimately, the Flemish government aims to make FAAM the largest virtual museum in the world.
