New sleeper train will link Brussels to Milan

A night train will run from Brussels to Milan via Switzerland from this summer. European Sleeper plans to launch the route on 18 June.
The new route from the Belgian-Dutch operator will see trains depart from both Brussels and Amsterdam, with the two sections connecting in Germany. After that, the journey continues via Bern and Brig in Switzerland and Lake Maggiore in Italy.
“This journey will allow travellers to enjoy inspiring morning and evening views of alpine valleys and peaceful lakes along the way,” the company said in a press release on Wednesday.
European Sleeper plans to operate the route three times a week. Departures from Brussels are scheduled on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, with arrivals in Italy the following morning. The return service from Milan will run on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings.
The exact schedule is still being discussed with national rail network operators, and ticket sales are due to start in January or February. European Sleeper’s plans to run overnight trains to Barcelona have been postponed until 2027 or 2028.
The company already runs trains between Brussels and Berlin, Dresden and Prague, and a seasonal train to the Alps and Venice. In March it will launch a route from Paris to Berlin, with a stop in Brussels. Austrian railway company ÖBB runs night trains between Brussels and Vienna.
Last month, Swiss bus company Twiliner launched a deluxe bus service between Amsterdam, Brussels and Zurich.
