New CEO appointed at Flanders Investment & Trade

Piet Demunter has been appointed as the new CEO of Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), the Flemish government's agency for trade promotion and foreign investment. The Flemish government formally approved the appointment on Tuesday evening via electronic procedure.
Demunter succeeds Joy Donné, who unexpectedly stepped down in June 2024 after just two years in the role. Demunter, who had been serving as FIT’s chief operating officer, was appointed interim CEO following Donné’s departure. He will officially take over the position in August.
Piet Demunter knows FIT inside and out
Demunter joined FIT as COO in early 2023, following a lengthy career in executive roles at Brussels Airport Company. "Piet Demunter knows FIT inside and out," said Flemish minister-president Matthias Diependaele in a statement to De Tijd. "He brings the right expertise and vision to keep our region attractive to investors and support our businesses in growing their exports."
Geopolitically tense times
This expertise is expected to be particularly valuable in the current climate of increasing geopolitical uncertainty, largely due to the unpredictable trade policies of US President Donald Trump. This has caused growing unease among Flemish businesses. Demunter acknowledged these challenges.
"In these geopolitically tense times, we must be even more responsive to companies’ needs and ensure that FIT takes an even more proactive approach towards entrepreneurs and investors," Demunter said.
FIT, officially the Flemish Agency for International Entrepreneurship, was established in 2005 through the merger of Export Flanders and the Investment Agency of Flanders. Its role is to attract foreign investment to Flanders and support Flemish companies in expanding their international trade.
FIT is headquartered in Brussels and operates 98 offices worldwide, including five in Flanders. FIT offers a range of services and information to assist Flemish exporters and investors, and employs 340 staff.
