Nearly 44,000 new companies created in Belgium in one year

Almost 44,000 new companies were set up in Belgium between 1 May 2025 and 30 April 2026, according to the Federation of Notaries (Fednot).
A total of 43,963 companies were created during the period, up 4.5 per cent from the previous year. On average, 3,664 companies were launched each month.
Wallonia recorded the strongest growth, with new company formations rising by 12.1 per cent. Brussels saw an increase of 4.6 per cent, while Flanders recorded growth of 1.6 per cent.
Flanders remained the main business hub, with 26,267 new companies, accounting for nearly 60 per cent of all new businesses in Belgium.
Fednot said the increase was linked to company law reforms introduced in 2019. The changes made it easier to start a business by simplifying rules and removing the minimum capital requirement.
Most of the new businesses were private limited companies. Fednot also noted strong entrepreneurial growth in Hainaut, where company creation rose by around 20 per cent compared with a year earlier.
The number of new companies being created each month is now about 75 per cent higher than before the 2019 reforms.
