National Lottery posts record year with 1.67bn euros in bets

Belgium’s National Lottery had a record year in 2025, with players staking 1.666 billion euros, the organisation announced on Friday.
The strong results led not only to higher prize payouts, but also to a bigger contribution to society. Players recorded 117.2 million winning moments, with a total of 1.266 billion euros paid out in prizes. This was 17 per cent more wins than in 2024, while the average prize rose to 10.80. Forty players became millionaires.
Player activity peaked at times at up to 5,000 entries per minute. People played through shops, online and via the app. The Lottery counted 2.37 million identified players and 1.25 million active digital players in 2025, with digital play up nearly 20 per cent.
A major driver was an exceptional year for EuroMillions, marked by long jackpot runs and a record jackpot. It was the most popular game, with 67.3 million plays. A new Lotto prize, the monthly “dream home”, also proved successful, boosting digital sales on the last Saturday of the month by 47 per cent.
Retail outlets remained the main channel, accounting for just over 70 per cent of all bets, with online play making up the rest.
Following its 2024 results, the National Lottery returned 362.5 million euros to society. It expects this contribution to rise to around 370 million for 2025. Chief executive Jannie Haek said the figures show the Lottery remains “popular, responsible and at the service of the country”.
