Man in critical condition after shooting in Schaerbeek

A man is in critical condition after a shooting on Sunday evening in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek, RTL Info reports and the police confirm.

The police zone of Brussels North confirmed the incident on Monday morning. "The police were called to a shooting on the terrace of a café on the Rue Joseph Brand at around 10.30 on Sunday," said spokesperson Audrey Dereymaeker.

When the emergency services arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds in critical condition. The police informed the public prosecutor, who came to the scene with an investigating judge. The investigation is ongoing and the police are not commenting further.

RTL Info reported that a masked man allegedly approached the cafe and fired four shots at the victim, two of which hit him in the head, before fleeing the scene.
