Magyar promises new start for Hungary after election victory

Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar promised Hungarians a new start following his election victory on Sunday. Hungary will once again be a strong partner in the European Union and NATO, he said.
After the counting of votes in 97.74 per cent of the polling stations, the conservative Tisza party won 138 of the 199 seats in parliament. Magyar thus secures the necessary two-thirds majority to push through major reforms.
The far-right Fidesz party of current prime minister Viktor Orbán, which currently holds 133 seats in parliament, ends up with 55 seats, while the smaller, also far-right party Mi Hazank has seven.
