Loena Hendrickx takes silver at figure skating world championships

Belgium's Loena Hendrickx took silver in the free skate at the world championships
in Montpellier. With her outstanding performance, the 22-year-old is writing history, as never before has a Belgian managed to conquer a medal in this discipline.
Yesterday evening, Loena Hendrickx confirmed her great short freestyle of Wednesday with another clear round at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montpellier. With a total of 217.70 points, the 22-year-old Belgian came close to her personal record. Her outstanding performance was good for second place in the final standings. Only Japan's Kaori Sakamoto did better with 236.09 points.
For Hendrickx it is the highlight of her career after an 8th place at the Olympics, a 4th at the European Championships and a 5th at the previous World Championships. She is the first Belgian to win an individual medal at the World Figure Skating Championships. In the 1940s, a Belgian pair won gold twice.
It should be noted that the Russian women, who usually dominate the field thanks to their quadruple jumps, were not wanted in Montpellier because of the war in Ukraine.
