Le Banquet, which measures 75.5cm by 121cm, dates from 1955 and depicts a nocturnal forest in which a red sun hangs. The artwork had been part of a large US private collection since November 2017,

Sotheby's experts had estimated the artwork's value at between 15 and 20 million dollars (14 to 18.5 million euros).
