Latest COVID-19 vaccines available in Flanders and Brussels from this week onward

Vaccines against the BA-4 and BA-5 subtypes of the omikron variant will be available in Flanders and Brussels from this week. The latest type of vaccine will be administered from Friday in Brussels, while in Flanders, vaccination centres will randomly switch over earlier.
Until now, people were vaccinated with the vaccine against omikron subtype BA-1, but Belgium received a delivery of vaccines against subtypes BA-4 and BA-5 last week. As a result, the switch to the new vaccines will follow. Both types of vaccines, both the older and newer ones, both protect well against getting seriously ill and reduce hospital admissions. This is emphasised by health services in Flanders and Brussels.
The Flemish Care and Health Agency informs that the vaccination centres are switching randomly to the new vaccine. "They must first administer the stocks of BA-1 vaccines that have already been defrosted before switching. This will happen in the coming days, but it is not clear exactly which vaccination centre will switch when," spokesperson Joris Moonens clarified.
In Brussels, all four vaccination centres will switch to the new vaccine on Friday. The Joint Community Commission is advising everyone to get vaccinated a first, second, third or fourth time now that a peak of infections is expected in the second half of October.
