Last day for non-Belgians to register for municipal elections

Wednesday 31 July is the last day for non-Belgian citizens living in Belgium to register to vote in the upcoming municipal elections.

This will be the fourth time that non-Belgians can take part in the municipal elections, which will be held on 13 October. If they register in time, both EU citizens and non-EU citizens living in Belgium can cast their votes.

As in previous years, the number of non-Belgian citizens who have registered to vote remains very low. Only around 14 per cent of non-Belgian EU citizens had registered by 13 July. For non-EU citizens, the figure was around 8 per cent. The percentages are particularly low in Flanders and slightly higher in Wallonia.

Non-Belgians can register online at www.inscription.elections.fgov.be or by submitting a form to their municipality. More information and the relevant forms can be found here.
