Kopecky sprints to impressive victory in Giro d'Italia Women

Reigning world champion Lotte Kopecky has won by a large margin the fifth stage of the Giro Donne, the Giro d'Italia Women, in Foligno. She also gained precious seconds on the race leader Elisa Longo Borghini.
Lotte Kopecky won with an impressive sprint after a perfect lead-out from her team SD Worx-Protime. She crossed the line well ahead of the Italian rider Chiara Consonni of Team UAE, after 108 kilometres between Frontone and Foligno. It’s her first victory in this year’s Giro d'Italia Women, after finishing in second place twice and after four top ten places in general.
With her win, the reigning world champion also gains time on the maglia rosa Elisa Longo Borghini of Lidl-Trek. Kopecky is second in the general classification, just three seconds behind the Italian race leader.
Tomorrow’s stage features several tough hills on the route down the east of Italy from San Benedetto del Tronto to Chieti, ahead of the weekend's mountain finale double-header.
