KMSKA combines floral art with museum collection

A new exhibition at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp features a dialogue between contemporary floral art and works from the museum’s collection. Due to the transience of the flowers, the show runs only until 10 May.
For In Full Bloom, 15 Belgian floral artists collaborated with the museum and guest curator Gert Voorjans. They drew inspiration from a specific artwork or a location within the building and translated this into temporary installations.
“An interplay of attraction and tension emerges between flowers and artworks,” says guest curator Gert Voorjans. “Sometimes they create a harmonious unity, sometimes they clash. It is precisely in this interplay that a new layer emerges, prompting you to see things differently.”
The installations range from abstract compositions to more exuberant floral arrangements and are presented alongside or in relation to works of art by artists including Vincent van Gogh, Oskar Kokoschka, Yves Klein and Anish Kapoor.
