King Philippe to appoint De Wever as federal informateur
King Philippe will appoint Bart De Wever as informateur at the federal level. The N-VA president is expected to have an audience with the king this/Wednesday afternoon, at 2.30 pm, the Palace announced.
Earlier in the day, the Belgian king concluded his first talks with the various party’s presidents. He now asked N-VA president Bart De Wever to come to the palace for an audience.
It is widely expected that King Philippe will then appoint De Wever as informateur for the new federal government. The informateur is the person in charge of exploring the possibilities of forming a government.
De Wever is already informateur at the Flemish level and is in that role conducting final exploratory talks today.
The nationalist Flemish party N-VA became the country's largest party in the elections. De Wever indicated several times during the election campaign that he was a candidate to become the new Belgian prime minister.
