King Philippe responds to questions sent in by Belgians in video

On the occasion of his 65th birthday in April, King Philippe invited the public to submit questions they had always wanted to ask him. In a video published on Tuesday, he answered questions about his morning routine, favourite books, parachuting and more.

The initiative aimed to enable the King to establish direct contact with the Belgian people and engage with them in an accessible way. A total of 2,614 questions were submitted, 38 of which he addressed in a 40-minute video.

In a salon at the Royal Castle in Laeken, King Philippe answered questions such as whether he is obliged to wear a suit every day. He usually wears one "as a form of courtesy", he explained. “I don't usually wear jeans, but when we're on holiday with the family, we also wear casual clothes or trainers.”

The Royal Palace said it had received questions from Belgians of all ages about the King's personal life, royal duties and social challenges. The selected questions covered both serious topics, such as leadership and protocol, and lighter subjects, such as his least favourite food.

Other questions concerned the King's morning routine, which includes 15 minutes of meditation, and his favourite music. "Dire Straits is absolutely the best for me," said the King, who concluded the video with a word of thanks.
