King Philippe praises Zelensky: 'We are deeply impressed by your dignity'

King Philippe welcomed Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to the Royal Palace in Brussels on Thursday, for their third official meeting. The King expressed admiration and support for Zelensky, commending his resilience and pursuit of peace.
Zelensky spent the day in Brussels, beginning with a morning meeting with prime minister Bart De Wever, followed by participation in an EU summit in the afternoon. His audience with the King came after previous meetings in February 2023 and May 2024. On Sunday, Zelensky had also visited King Charles in the UK.
Following a formal reception outside, the King welcomed Zelensky into his office, where the press was allowed to attend the opening moments.

Together with our European colleagues, we will help you.”
Zelensky expressed gratitude for Belgium’s ongoing support, calling it a privilege to be received by the monarch. “It is crucial to feel and hear Europe on our side. This is of great importance to our people,” he said.
Reflecting on the rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, the King said: “History is changing very quickly.” Zelensky agreed, adding: “This is truly a historic moment.”
